Custom service

Rust Desktop Application

New service: cross-platform desktop software for Windows, macOS and Linux, pairing a Rust core with a polished React and TypeScript interface through Tauri.

Turn a business workflow or product idea into an installable desktop app. I can build the screens in React and TypeScript, connect them through Tauri to Rust for local application logic, and prepare builds for your agreed Windows, macOS and Linux targets. Local-first tools can work without a permanent internet connection; accounts, synchronisation and shared data can use an authenticated backend when required. This is a new service, with features, supported platforms and delivery quoted to scope.

New desktop development service

Why choose Rust for your desktop app?

Rust is an excellent choice when efficient local processing, reliability and control matter. Combine it with a familiar React and TypeScript interface to create a desktop product, not just another browser tab.

Efficient application logic

Rust compiles to native code without a garbage collector for the Rust core. It is a strong fit for file processing, background tasks and other demanding local work. Real performance still depends on the workload and implementation.

A safer foundation

Safe Rust's ownership and type checks catch many memory and concurrency mistakes before release. That reduces entire classes of bugs, but does not make an app automatically secure: permissions, dependencies, unsafe code and input handling still need review.

React interfaces, desktop capabilities

React builds the interactive screens; TypeScript helps keep the interface code consistent. Tauri connects this web-based UI to Rust commands for approved desktop operations. Its system WebView avoids bundling a separate Chromium engine, though app size and memory use vary.

What could we build?

  • Business workspaces

    Stock management, project tracking, reporting and offline-first operational tools.

  • File and document utilities

    Batch renaming, document organisation, import/export and local processing workflows.

  • Developer tools

    API clients, log viewers, server-management interfaces and deployment companions.

  • Media and service companions

    Asset catalogues, media-processing workflows and desktop clients for an existing web service.

Shared code. Proper platform testing.

Tauri supports Windows, macOS and Linux with substantial shared code. Each agreed target still needs its own build and testing: installers, OS integrations and WebView behaviour can differ. Signing certificates, Apple notarisation, store fees and update delivery are scoped separately.

Local SQLite storage can support offline workflows. Shared accounts and synchronisation can connect to a protected API over HTTPS; server database credentials do not belong inside the desktop app. Sensitive storage and desktop permissions are designed for the project.

Is Rust always the best option?

No single stack wins every project. A web app may suit browser-only access; Swift may suit an Apple-only native interface. Rust and Tauri are worth considering when desktop integration, local processing and cross-platform delivery justify the extra build and testing work.

Deliverables

  • Custom React and TypeScript desktop interface
  • Rust application logic and carefully scoped native permissions
  • Offline storage, file workflows or authenticated API integrations as agreed
  • Platform-specific builds and testing for your agreed operating systems
  • Installer, signing and update strategy matched to your distribution needs
  • Source-code handoff, setup notes and continued support options

Process

  • Agree the workflows, target operating systems and offline requirements.
  • Design a clear React and TypeScript interface around your users.
  • Build Rust commands with input validation and least-privilege Tauri capabilities.
  • Add the agreed local storage, file processing or authenticated API integration.
  • Test installation and core workflows on each supported desktop platform.
  • Prepare distribution, signing and update arrangements with handoff documentation.

Good for

  • Offline-first business tools
  • File and document utilities
  • Developer and server tools
  • Desktop dashboards and API clients
  • Media workflow applications
  • Companion apps for existing services

A look inside the build

Explore the code and project structure

React draws the desktop interface, TypeScript describes its data, and Tauri connects it to Rust application logic.

Open a folder and choose a file to see its role. Coloured code icons include short syntax samples. These are illustrative excerpts; your finished project is organised around its agreed features.

Example project

src-tauri/src/lib.rs

A Rust command returns a greeting to the desktop interface. The builder registers the command with Tauri.

lib.rsrust
#[tauri::command]
fn greet(name: &str) -> String {
    format!("Hello, {name}!")
}

#[cfg_attr(mobile, tauri::mobile_entry_point)]
pub fn run() {
    tauri::Builder::default()
        .invoke_handler(tauri::generate_handler![greet])
        .run(tauri::generate_context!())
        .expect("Could not start the desktop app");
}

Preview and staged approval

Review working software before the final handoff.

I can provide secure previews throughout the agreed project so you can analyse progress, test important workflows, and request reasonable in-scope changes. The payment structure is agreed before work begins and reflects the size, risk, and engineering effort involved.

Private progress previews

I can provide a private web preview or suitable mobile test build so you can inspect agreed work before approving the next milestone or final payment.

Request included changes

You can request reasonable revisions covered by the agreed scope at no extra charge before confirming that the build is right for you.

Payment terms matched to scope

A focused lower-cost build may qualify for payment after preview. Complex custom applications require an agreed deposit or paid milestones before substantial engineering begins.

Focused websites or template-based builds may be eligible for approval and payment after a completed preview. Substantial React, React Native, Node.js, API, authentication, or MySQL projects require a deposit, paid discovery, or milestone payments because they consume significant engineering time, testing effort, infrastructure, and paid AI-development resources such as ChatGPT Codex usage. A complex completed application therefore cannot be declined without paying for work already approved and completed. New features outside the agreed scope are quoted separately. Source code, production credentials, final deployment, and third-party licences are transferred only after the final balance is paid.

Continued support included

You are supported after purchase or delivery.

Support continues after handover, with practical help related to the delivered projectrather than leaving you with code and no direction.

Questions answered

Get clear follow-up answers about the supplied code, setup documentation, configuration, and technical handover.

Tailored command sheets

Request practical command sheets for installation, deployment, server configuration, updates, and common troubleshooting.

Engineering plans

Receive structured next-step plans covering architecture, milestones, integrations, security work, testing, and launch preparation.

Included support covers reasonable questions and guidance connected to the purchased product or agreed project scope. New features, substantial redevelopment, managed hosting, and third-party charges are quoted separately.
