Created and supported by Jonathan

Built as a useful product and presented as portfolio work.

I designed and developed Encrypted Messenger myself, Jonathan, as a genuinely useful communication product. It demonstrates the work invested in the mobile application, custom backend API, real-time features, MySQL data model, encryption-related functionality and production release process. The project is shown as portfolio work and is not currently offered for purchase.

The product uses established technologies including React Native, Expo, Node.js, Express, Socket.IO, and MySQL. Its value comes from the custom application logic, API behaviour, database structure, screens, and workflows built within those technologies—not from claiming that no frameworks or third-party libraries were used.

Full-stack delivery

This project combines a compiled mobile application with a separately deployed API and MySQL database. Building a comparable production system requires dependency installation, environment configuration, database migrations, backend hosting, mobile signing, device testing and release preparation.

Deployment experience

The work demonstrates experience across macOS and Ubuntu workflows, including secure file transfer, dependency installation, MySQL setup, environment configuration, API deployment, Nginx, HTTPS, process management, updates and verification. Its iOS backend and local MySQL database can run alongside this Next.js and Magic UI website on one £6-per-month VPS from a UK provider; higher traffic, storage, resilience, or availability requirements may need a larger plan.

Designed for growth

The project demonstrates a system spanning a mobile client, custom API and database schema, including branding, features, user roles, subscriptions, API routes, data models and messaging workflows. New client work would be designed separately around the customer's requirements, testing, security and platform obligations.

Google advertising configuration

Prepared for environment-based Google Mobile Ads setup.

The messenger package uses environment-variable placeholders for Google Mobile Ads app and banner identifiers on iOS and Android. For mobile applications, this service is called Google AdMob; Google AdSense is primarily intended for website advertising.

I can help connect your own Google account, enter the correct app and ad-unit identifiers, configure test adverts, review consent flows, and prepare the advertising setup for release. Google account approval, ad serving, revenue, consent requirements, and App Store or Google Play acceptance remain subject to the relevant platform policies.

Cross-platform React Native

Created with first-hand Apple App Store experience.

The React Native and Expo project shares application code across iOS and Android, supported by a custom backend and MySQL database. This portfolio project demonstrates mobile signing, environment configuration, device testing and App Store submission work. CodeKits can scope an original customer application separately.

My own Encrypted Messenger app passed Apple's App Review and was accepted for App Store distribution. I also have experience integrating StoreKit for digital in-app purchases and Apple Pay for eligible goods and services. Every rebranded customer app still requires its own testing and store review.

Store developer accounts, signing credentials, privacy details and review approval are required. Apple and Google control final acceptance.

React Native and Node.js setup

Install the mobile app and deploy its API.

The Encrypted Messenger iOS app's Node.js API and local MySQL database can share the same £6-per-month UK VPS as this Next.js website. A tailored command sheet can cover the mobile app, backend, schema, PM2 process and Nginx routes.

  • Install the mobile and backend dependencies
  • Prepare the MySQL schema without showing passwords in commands
  • Run the API continuously with PM2
  • Share one right-sized VPS with the Next.js website
  • Validate the Nginx reverse proxy before launch

Final command sheets are tailored to the project and hosting setup.

✓ Ubuntu packages updated
✓ Expo development server ready
✓ MySQL tables imported
✓ Messenger API is ready behind Nginx
